How do I configure a service to start with below normal priority?

by brimstone . Updated 18 years, 7 months ago

I have several Windows 2003 SP1 servers in remote offices that are primarily file/print servers but which also do double duty as secondary SMS site servers. The problem I am experiencing is that the SMS services hog the available cpu resources (more than 25%)often making the server run at 100%. One of my colleagues has suggested that I try to run the SMS services at below-normal priority.

I have done several searches but I cannot find any method to do this automatically. I know that I could use Process Explorer to lower the priority but I need an automatic process so that I don’t have to remember to reset the priority every time I restart the servers.

Is there a registry key that I could modify to do what I need?

Thanks for your help!
