How do I delete history in Media Player?

By jmarchetto ·
I am running Windows Media Player for XP. I have yet to find an option to delete the list of recently played files that appear in the media player's file menu. I checked "options" in the tools menu and I did not see anything. Please advise me howto accomplish this seemly simple task. Thanks in advance for your help!

How do I delete history in Media Player?

CAUTION: The following advice must be used with care as improper use of Regedit can cause your computer to not boot.

The Media Player recent file list is stored at:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Player\RecentFileList

Openregedit from the run box on the start menu.

Browse to the key.

Delete the data for the files you want removed form the Media Player recent file list.

Next, open Windows Explorer and go to
C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Recent
Delete any file links that you want out of recent file history.
