How do I find out if my memory is bad on my pc?

By slj2cute ·
It was suggested to me that my memory might be bad, because it was thought it was the hard drive and i replaced that and my pc is still rebooting randomly. it is there a software or program to test it. I have a gateway 560GE pc. Thanks

Try re-seating the RAM.
More than one stick? Try booting the system with only one stick at a time (tested stick needs to be in the primary slot).

Stop Windows from automatically restarting on failure. (XP instructions.)

Right-click My Computer
Properties
Advanced tab
Startup and Recovery settings
- Un-check "Automatically Restart"
- Check "write to event log"

Now when your computer fails you might get an error message which you can post here. You can also check the event logs for reports of this problem.

Also with Gateway PC's

Check the Power Supply for correct Function by replacing the current one with a Known Good One and see if it still restarts. If it works properly replace the Power Supply with a Good Brand Name Power Supply.

Gateway computers have very marginal Power Supplies at the best of times and many problems with them can be traced tot he standard Power Supply that comes with them.

Look for a Name Brand like Corsair, Gigabyte, Antec and so on brands like Flower are not good power supplies and should be avoided at all costs.
