How do I fix my external hard drive?

By lofarrell ·
I was moving files to the external hard drive, when it suddenly powered off. Now the light comes on but there is no whirring sound at start up. My computer does not regcognize the external drive either.

Ok, a little more information would be great.

The hard drive it self powered off?

Or was it a power surge?

And make sure that it's plugged in properly.

It can be the internal components of the case which may not be functioning properly. I would remove the drive. If you dont have an external sata/ide usb data cable you will need one to enable you to plug drive into USB.
