By ferrari2197 ·
I kept trying everything but nothing worked. I went to My computer and it didn't work. I put in the installation disc and it didn't recognize it. Can someone help. Thanks.

You cannot format C from inside XP ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to How do I format a Dell La ...

Because you'd be trying to format the hard drive that contains the OS that you are currently using.

To format the C;\ drive (your Primary Boot drive) you have to do so from outside it, while it is NOT running the OS. That's why you'd use the Windows XP install disc, which you boot from.

Check inside your BIOS to ensure that the CD drive is first in the boot order. If the HD is first in the boot order, you'll have to move it down the boot order so that CD is above it.

WHY are you wanting to format the C drive?
