How do I get Internet connection back after reformat?

By serenitywizard ·
Reformatted HP dx 2250 desktop. Although I have the recovery and reinstall disks, the Ethernet drivers were not reinstalled. Called HP...waste of time... either put on hold forever, or got someone who did not understand. Tried using some of my older cards in PCI slots, but although Device Manager sees them, says no drivers installed? Tried getting drivers for them as well as ones from HP online, with same result. Emailed HP support...that was another futile expedition!

Thankfully, I still have my old ACER to fall back on! Any suggestions...this thing is not much good to me the way it is. Tried downloading HP drivers from ACER to jump drive and installing in HP, but no go. All other drivers ok, but no Internet connection. Router ok, since this ACER connected, plus wireless works on laptop. I'm confused. Help!!!

Well you go to HP and click on Support & Drivers

Then enter your Model Number and you are prompted to chose your OS Either Vista or XP and the correct drivers are located there

So go to the Link and click on your OS Type and then select your LAN Driver under the Network Drivers which under XP HP list 3 one Intel, One Realtech and one Belkin for the Wireless I suppose.

If you are not sure what your actual LAN Card is you can use Unknown Device Identifier to find out what the Chip Set Maker & Model is and that is available free here

That is of course assuming that there are no problems shown in Device Manager.
