How do i get MSN and MSN Messenger to.....

By kingofthekerb ·
Since starting to use a router for my AOL connection I have have a problem where I can't log on to MSN. I have sort of been told that MSN doesn't support routers but there is a way round this.

Does anyone know how to configure MSN to work with my router? Something to do with proxy servers.

Any solutions are warmly received

You Were Told Wrong

MSN works just fine over a router - even with NAT and a mess of closed off ports. It's more likely that someone between your PC and MSN's servers is blocking you - like maybe AOL.

MSN and AOL have a long proud tradition of sabotaging each other's enterprises. Users who try to make one work with the other are making a mistake.

I suspect that you may have some ports blocked. Take a look and make sure the following ports are open:

UDP 2001-2120, 6801, 6901 and all UDP ports between 5004 and 65535 must be opened to allow signaling (SIP) and media streams (RTP) to traverse the firewall (if you are doing voice and video).
TCP 6891-6901

There is an excellent list of ports for major chat applications here:
