How do I get started with firewire

By dougruyle ·
I have a Dell Inspiron 2500 notebook how do I get started using a firewire connection to a CD-RW. So what hardware and software do I need? Are there compatability concerns?
Thanks.

How do I get started with firewire

It's very straight forward really, particularly if you buy a Firewire CD Writer. I bought a firewire box and installed my own writer. Adaptec Easy CD & Nero Burning ROM software support firewire attached drives. So just buy a drive, with overrun protection such as burnproof, justlink, etc, plug it together & I'm sure it will all work fine and significantly better than a USB setup.
Good Luck....

You will need a firewire (iEEE 1394) expansion card for your laptop. Don't forget to pick up one of those when you get the RW. The comment about Burn-Proof/Just Link/etc. is a great recommendation. Don't buy any CDRW without buffer underrun protection (unless you like coasters).
