How do I get Vista to behave like XP…?

by chrisbedford . Updated 19 years, 2 months ago

Yeah, yeah, yeah, Vista has “more security”, is “stronger”, and “more robust”, and should give me more “peaec of mind” than XP.

Uh huh. Also, after 3 days, more frustration than in the last three years, so enough already. Every application I start asks me “are you sure?”, every installation says “we are warning you”, and some programs can’t save my preferences, so they are asking me to set them up every time they start. Hell, some apps (notably, two PDF creators) don’t work at all.

I have read / heard mention of “running everything as an administrator” or words to that effect, but have no idea where to start. Is there is is there not a way to default all the damn security settings back to the Windows XP model? This is a home office computer, I don’t care about the hacker vulnerabilities, I’m not concerned about the internal security risk (I don’t think my cat is going to steal sensitive data), and I’m certainly not going to sue anyone if I screw the machine’s settings up myself. So let me have access to my own f*(&^ files, for goodness’ sake! Please!

Anyone?

My undying gratitude to you if you can help! Thanx! 🙂
