Remove the NB Drive fit it to a USB Caddy and plug it in that way.

But depending on the type of HDD Fitted tot he NB you either need a 2.5 to 3.5 Inch Converter and you need to plug in the Adapter the correct way around or you will destroy the IDE Interface on the M'Board by feeding power down a Logic Line. or if you have a SATA HDD you just remove it from the NB and plug into a SATA Data & Power Connectors in the Desktop. That is of course providing you have a SATA Connector in the Desktop.

It's easier getting a USB Enclosure to suit your HDD though and plugging it into a Spare USB Port and lifting the Data Straight off the HDD.

If you had a Password on the NB you may need to Take Ownership of the Files by following the directions here

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308421

And if you had EFS in use you need to recover your copy of the Encryption Key from your Backup and mount it following the directions here

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/887414/en-us

EFS = Encrypted File System and results in Green Files in My Computer or Explorer. :)
