How do I initiate a task via an email?

By smclellan ·
I know there are some programs out there that monitor an email address and when they detect key phrases or addresses, they can run a task on a remote computer. I am running Windows on the remote computer.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thunderbird with FiltaQilla?

by TobiF In reply to How do I initiate a task ...

Have you tried Thunderbird with FiltaQilla?
(I've never used it myself, but it looks as if you might be able to do what you need.)

This add-on does what I need. Thanks for the input.

There was a piece of software that I came across before that simply monitors email - not part of a full-fledged client software - for emails to a particular address and runs tasks based on that. I cannot find it again. It was an obscure search that I performed once and have not been able to duplicate. Any ideas on that one?

No idea...

But, if you want something really tailored, then it shouldn't be too hard to develop your own thing in some scripting language...

Altiris Notification Server, otherwise known as Symantec Management Platform with Notification Server 7.0.

The name stems from the fact that an admin or responsible person would need to be 'notified' about stuff happening to systems being monitored and some action, automated or otherwise, would then be initiated.

This action initiation would be 'triggered' by a specific type of Notification Server Event (NSE) which is configurable.
