I have an Hp pavilion desktop with AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core.
How should I install Windows 7 in place of OEM Windows Vista Home Premium on my system?

As a member of TechRepublic is there a free download of Windows 7 available?

and when you are ready run one of these to remove the previous Operating System and its remnents.

Darik's Boot and Nuke or KillDisk

Darik's Boot and Nuke for IDE drives, will work with some Sata drives

Autonuke should do it and it will make 3 passes.

Bootable ISO Image for KillDisk for DOS. Free version will do both IDE & Sata. The free version is limited to 1 pass.

You will have to purchase Windows 7.

Windows 7 install

To the best of my knowledge, there is no "free" download of Windows 7; you would have to purchase the OS either through a vendor or from M$'s online store.

As for installing it once you have Windows 7, it's a matter of preference; either back up your data, wipe and do a clean install, or back up your data and do an upgrade install. Reading here may be a good place to start

As for installing it you need to follow the directions above supplied by Jacky. Or this link may be useful
