How do I make a Macintosh startup disk?

By Raveneer2000 ·
Hi, I'm new to Macs, and I think I need a Macintosh startup disk... I have a powermac 7200 that was donated to me. When I power it up,there is an icon of a blinking disk w/a question mark on it... and that's as far as it goes.
If anyone can help me i'd appreciate it!

There is no start up floppy disk for mac. What you do is put in the system CD (8.5,8.6,9.2 etc). You do this by starting your computer and put the CD in. Shut down the computer. Restart computer while holding down the C key. This will make it start on the CD and you can make repairs from there. Even if you use the Norton's CD(for Mac) you have to start it this way. If you didn't get a CD with your machine, you can down load one from Apple.com. Make sure you get the right series(8.5, 8.6. 9.2 etc) Warning do not up grade to a higher series unless your sure it will work with your machine. Hopes this helps Frank

The question mark tell you that it can't find the hard drive. It may have been erased if that happened then reinstall as told above. OR it may have a bad harddrive. It will have to be replaced before you reinstall operating system. NOTE: Some Macs come with a SCSI drive instead of a IDE drive. You will have to look at your drive to find out. Frank
