How do I move forward?

By a_kinney ·
I have been doing break/fix desktop support for 2 years. Originally it was supposed to be a get my foot in the door job, but now I feel stuck and I'm growing unhappy. I eventually want to be a network administrator or get into IT security, but I'm really not sure how to get there. I got my MCSE in 2006, but haven't really used it and don't remember a lot. Just looking for tips to get where I want to go.

Thank you,
Adam

Move on to move forward

It sounds from your post that you don't think your current employer is going to have the opportunities you're looking for. If that's the case, it might be time to find a new job.

As you look, try to do as much independent side work as possible. It'll help you meet new people and may be good resume fodder.

Good Luck!

If they aren't lettuing you develop yourself

leave.
Start brushing up if you can, may be it will be another support job, but make your aspirations clear. Update the certs, at least set up your own workshop and do the exercises / material, May be if you can afford the time and money get more certs.

But start putting yourself about, it's not two years wasted, use it.

Going into an interview when you've got a job (at least the bills are getting paid), can be very relaxing. You have the skills, you have the experience, you have the ambition and the drive.

They don't got nuffin...

Pep talk over.
