How do I open this application now (.exe)?

By it'snotITit'sjustIT ·
Some time ago I wanted to hide an application, an .exe; so I renamed it with .pdf which also changed the association etc...

Now, I'm trying to access it again, but even when I remove the .pdf from the name, the pdf file association still shows (icon) and when I click on the app the pdf reader opens.

I'm not sure what I'm missing here to open this application again, so any suggestions on how to restore the native application would be very appreciated!

OS=Win 7x64; restoring is not an option nor is downloading the app again.

Thanks

Make sure your system isn't hiding extentions from you

I would go to the directory in DOS and look at it from there. Once you see "program.exe" in DOS you could try running it from there but most likely you will need to run it from Windows. If you have adobe reader associated with ".exe" files then you have bigger problems, none of your exe files would run properly and I doubt this is the case.

make sure youre using the proper app

by ARandomPenguin In reply to How do I open this applic ...

after you changed the extension im assuming that windows set the default access program to one associated with .pdf files. So when you change it back ive noticed that it remains on mine. so, how about using the 'open with' in the drop down bar (right click ) and checking the 'always use selected program to open this kind of file' and then browse for 'windows installer'. This might be just me but it worked. sorry if this isnt very helpful.

"and checking the 'always use selected program to open this kind of file' and then browse for 'windows installer'

..there is no 'windows installer' anywhere that I've found; either not sure where to look or the app just doesn't need it.

Any other ideas?
