I have a Dell 1420 laptop that came with Vista Home Premium, which I upgraded to Vista Ultimate. After about a month of working correctly, Vista stopped ‘seeing’ the internal modem. The modem is present in the Device Manager, passes diagnostics, and will even dial and connect via HyperTerminal (I downloaded HT from Hilgraeve’s website), but no Windows program can see or access the modem.
I use pcAnywhere and LapLink for remote client support. Both programs fail to report any modem present. Windows Fax and Scan and Dialup Connection both report that I do not have a modem. I even bought an external USB modem – same result: Device Manager sees it, passes diagnostics, Windows programs say it is not there! Anybody have any ideas?
