How Do I Recover Lost Data On A Hard Dri

My question is, How do I recover data that was lost during a install of a second hard drive. I had a compatibility problem working with a Western Digital hard drive and Microsoft fdisk. I hope the information isn’t permenantly lost. I need help. ER,Thanks
