Webroot’s Spysweeper found “BraveSentry FakeAlert” on my system. After the file was quarantined then deleted, I rebooted and rescanned system with same results: infected with “BraveSentry FakeAlert”. I’ve already submitted the details to Webroot, but have not received a reply.
All of my anti-virus/anti-spyware/internet security programs are kept up-to-date on a daily basis. All of my computers are scanned once a week. I have Windows XP SP2 and use IE7.
I scanned with the following programs (all up-to-date) and they did NOT find anything: spybot, ad-aware se personal, Norton Internet Security, Norton Spyware, Windows Defender, Windows One Live Care.
Bottom Line: Only Spysweeper found this threat.
There are many removal tools listed when I search the internet, but wanted advice for a reliable site to obtain a tool.
