How do I remove write protection from a compact flash card?

By als ·
I purchased 10 SanDisk 16mb compact flash cards on ebay. I use an embroidery machine and the designs are stored on the compact flash cards. However, when I tried to put design files on the cards, all of them tell me they are write protected and I can not perform that function. Can anyone help me? Or did I just waste my money?
Thanks, Sue

Write Protection

by Geo.Howard In reply to How do I remove write pro ...

This could be caused by two things...

A - On the side of most flash drives there is the option to "Lock it" or not allow information to be written to or deleted from. Make sure it's not locked.

B - Double check your programs save settings, and the file properties. Uncheck read only if it is checked, and you might try saving directly to the flash drive to see if it is the program, or the drive.

Hope this helps

Where are the designs for the Embroidery machine stored?

If they are on the Sewing Machine the OS could be a different and the Partition Type on the Flash Drives is not recognised/supported by the Sewing Machines OS.

If these are being directly connected to a computer running Windows unless you have Vista they should work OK though you may have some problems with Vista Recognising the Thumb Drives. But if the Sewing Machine is the unit that you are connecting to you'll need to supply the Make & Model as it is quite possible that the unit isn't running a Windows OS.
