How do i repair a netbook's Frozen keyboard?

By darescot ·
I own an Acer Aspire 1 which was infected with virus. I was able to remove the virus since the avast antivirus installed no longer see any threat.
However, the virus behavoir still continues as it makes the netbook to auto type characters into any text field like MS Word, browser address bar, e.t.c. Now, instead of the auto-type problem, the whole keyboard has gone frozen and I can't do anything with the keyboard, Moreover the hard drive refuses to be formatted from the operating system [Win XP].
I got an external DVD to install a new windows xp but when the dialogue box to input product key came up,it did not accept the characters. Also, i tried booting from the CD but the function key did not work since i needed to change the BIOS order to see the DVD drive as the first booth device. I also tried using the windows computer management tool in the control panel to format the hard drive, but it wouldn't respond.
I believe with proper instruction, i should be able to get it done myself rather than getting ripped by repairmen who makes it a duty to charge netbook/laptop users exorbitantly in my area.

Well to format the HDD you need a Boot Disc

You Can Not Format the Boot Drive from within the OS.

Here I would hazard a guess that the system isn't clean to begin with and would suggest scanning it with a Rescue Disc as you already have a External Optical Drive that you can Boot OFF.

If it is heavily infected a simple Format may not be sufficient you may need to Wipe the HDD with a utility like Boot & Nuke available free here

Or Kill Disc also free from here

Then proceed to format the HDD with the Windows Install Disc. You can read about Rescue Disc's in this TR Article.
