How do I Repair IE7 Beta2

By jgreenha ·
I loaded IE7 Beta2 to computer, then had problems with motherboard. Supplier repaired Windows XP to fix drivers for motjherboard. I am now unable to access Internet Explorer. It seems that the file wininet.dll has been overwritted with an older version. When I try to reload IE7, I am told that ie7 is already loaded and that I should remove it through the Control Panel. However, i5t no longer appears in the Control Panel. Is there a way I can force a reload of IE7 Beta2? I assume there should be a registry key change which will let me do this.

IE 7 Removal

It took me a while to figure out how to remove it too, here's what you need to do:

Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl, and then click OK.
Click to select the Show updates check box.
Scroll through the list of installed programs to the Windows XP ? Software Updates section.
In the Windows XP ? Software Updates section, click Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview, and then click Remove.
In the Software Update Removal Wizard dialog box, click Next..
Click Finish when the process has finished, and then restart the computer.

IE7 Removal

Unfortunately, Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview does not appear in Control Panel, whether Show Updates is ticked or not. IE6 has been loaded over it. When I click on IE, the following comes up in a dialog box "The procedure entry point InternetGetSecurityInforBy URLW could not be located in the dynamic link library Wininet.dll. I tried to replace the file with one from another computer also running IE 7, but it was being used by another program. I am hoping that a change to a key in registry may make it possible to reload ie 7.

This worked for me

This may help (or not)

The repair for Spysheriff (smithrem.exe) replaced wininet.dll with the wrong version for me. I downloaded IE7Beta2 and extracted it using WinRAR. I then copied the version 7 wininet.dll from the IE7BETA2 directory created by WinRAR in to the c:\windows\system32 directory, overwriting the older wininet.dll.

Next I went to start->run and ran this command:

regsvr32 /n /i:"" WinInet.dll

This registered the Wininet.dll file.

Lastly, I rebooted the machine and everything seems to be working well including my Windows XP Firewall which was also disabled.

Hope it helps.
