How do I repair lost MS-Office Certs

by kappy's gemini . Updated 25 years ago

Last year I had a need to upgrade my sytem. I had a properly working MS-Office Suite, Incl. Installation (CD-KEY) info entered. (competitive upgrade diskettes for OF4.0, on WP5.1 & PPT3.0) then upgrade to OF95 CD. The OS went from W3.11 to W95, to W95SR2, to W98, to WME.
Products from the MSOFPro (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, then OTL97 & Visio. All original copies, upgrades to OFPro95 to OFPro97+OLK97 Then OLK98. Latest versions on 12/27/2K. I dropped OF2K but kept OF97+OLK98+Vis2K.
Replaced HDD from 3.5 to 40 GB. & W98 to WME. Booted the machine in DOS W98, attrib’s all off (-R-A-S-H) and diskcopy’d all “C” to “D” C=3.5 GB. Checked all programs worked well initially. Noted the S/N in the properties box were blank! I had lost the CD key info!
No-Sweat, reinstalled the CD “Key” and all programs. Now Word will not load properly but will open a file when clicking on “.doc” files and OLK98 does some funny things like no right click on a single message OK on multiple messages!I have no sysadm’s that have a clue. None of several friends in the private sector can figure out how to repair this — Except “with all the upgrades & the Upgrade CD complaining that there is no ‘qualified’ products installed for Word or Access. They say the familiar, “Bite the bullet and buy an original ‘Full Installation’ Cd for OFFICE 2k”.
Not on your life!
I will not have OF2K on a standalone WME machine and expect anything but trouble, it is after all MS!
MS won’t allow copying fromone hard disk to another larger one w/o loosing the ability to use “installed legal licensed software!” in a single machine. If I could afford a lawyer… etc.
Any tips or tricks?
Someone once told me there was a full installation copy on the CD (OFPro97) but they forgot how to install it!
