I have a proprietary piece of equipment that I need to remotely connect to via dial up modem. The equipment recently had a software upgrade that rendered my previous modems obsolete. The equipment is hard coded to use a RS232 serial interface at 9600 baud. I cannot change this. Previously it was set up at 1200 baud and all my modems were either 1200 or 2400 baud. Now, since the equipment is at 9600 baud I cannot use the prior modems because they are too slow (antiques that will not go to 9600).Can I use a common off-the-shelf modern external 56k modem (all I can find now) for this app? If so, what initialization string should I use? I can use ATS0=n&W to get the modem to answer on n rings, but cannot get any downloads. I can “connect” to the modem using Hyperterminal, Procomm, etc., but have to use a proprietary program on the calling computer to access the equipment. Hyperterminal et al will not work for this. I can get the modem to answer, but do not get the proper handshaking tones back. I think I should be able to use a common modem this way, the tech at the computer store says I should be able to, the tech support person for the equipment says I should be able to, but none offer useful info. I have tried 2 different models of Modem Blasters and an old 33k Multitech (which we use on other, newer equipment for the same purpose, also @ 9600) but with no success. As an aside, I also have’nt been able to get the Modem Blasters to work with the equipment that does work with the Multitech.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
