How do I update the firmware of my NEC nd3530a DVD drive

I have been having problems burning discs to a high enough quality on my Dell 5000 using a NEC ND3530A DVD drive.

it has been suggested the firmware may need updating to version of 3.01.

i have the file as a binary. how do i update the firmware. i'm running XP

What you need is the NEC Firmware Flash Utility.

http://support.necam.com/Optical/downloads/FlashFirmware/

what you may have to do is download some other version of firmware, which comes with the utility, then be sure to use the firmware file that you need when flashing the drive.

Just an observation here

Recently I have had lots of failures of DVD Blanks.

In every case it's been poor quality Media or Poor Storage of the Blanks and has not been a hardware issue. I very much doubt that Flashing the Firmware on the DVD Drive will have any effect on this system.
