How do I upgrade Ubuntu?

By jimmy-jam ·
Ok, this seems like it should be fairly straight forward. Maybe I'm just a bad Googler. I have 8.04 loaded. I have read on the boards here that the latest 9.0? is better and faster. I like faster. I would like to upgrade but I can't seem to find the documentation on how to pull this off. I have loaded Linux many times but never upgraded a distro. I usually just played for a while then wiped the drive and tried something new. Can anyone point me to any upgrade documentation?

You mean I can't go straight to 9.04?

That sucks!

I have read in a couple different places that they dont recommend skipping release distributions... you could download the ISO and install 9.04...

Yeah but

If I just load 9.04 I would overwrite all the customization and configuration I have done to this point... right?

If you have done some customization to the "eye candy", I have noticed with 9.04 the settings don't stick... Every time I reboot or shutdown, I have to go back in and enable it... I don't know if other people are experiencing this or its just me. Just a heads up.

I think

I read another rant about it (here or elsewhere), where the settings didnt stick after an upgrade, along with other quirky behavior.
