How were you connected

by Jacky Howe In reply to How do Renconnect my Inte ...

in the first place? It sounds like you are not connected to anything. Check your cabling. Try restarting the Modem with the PC turned off. A couple of more things to check.

Windows XP

Click Start and go to Control Panel.
Click on Network and/or Internet Connections depending on your view.
Click Network Connections.
Right click on Local Area Connection and choose Properties. If this icon does not appear, then your network card is not being detected by Windows. This icon should appear automatically if your card is detected. If its not being detected try reinstalling the Network Drivers.

Under the Connect Using label, make sure that your network card is properly listed.
If you look below you will see a drop down box, there will be a list of all installed/available protocols for your network card. Scroll down and find the "Internet TCP/IP".
Highlight this entry and click on the Properties button below the list. If you have pre-configured values in this window, you may want to write down the information for future reference. Then, make sure that the option "Obtain IP address automatically" has been selected. Also, make sure that the setting "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" is set.
When these two properties are set, go ahead and click the "OK" button to close the Properties panel and click "OK" again to close the control panel. Windows may or may not ask you to restart.

Click on the "START" button and click on "RUN".
Type in "cmd" and click "OK".
At the command prompt type ipconfig /all and press ENTER. The IP Address should be in the format "192.168.xxx.xxx". If your IP Address starts with "169.254", your configuration is not correct or you are not plugged into the Unit correctly.

Try the ping command.

At the command prompt type ping 127.0.0.1 and press Enter. If it doesn't then there's a fault with the Network card and it will have to be replaced.

Type netsh winsock reset at the command prompt, and then press ENTER.
