First things first…I don’t want his job and I actually like him. He is a very nice guy.
I am new to the IT world. So here I am, learning it all on the job. I consume vast quantities of information on everything I can find related to IT and how it does/could apply to my company. I go to bed at night reading “how to XYZ for dummies”. As I do this, I also learn that our network and processes are text book examples of what NOT to do. These are the same issues my Net Admin guru/trainer has been pointing out as we go along.
So here’s the problem. How do I operate and learn in an environment that I can see needs improvement, while not over-stepping my boundries as low-man on the totem pole? My trainer has pointed out almost all of these issues during his tenure (he started as a contractor here) but there doesn’t seem to be an understanding…the light isn’t coming on for the boss man. I don’t want to make the boss man look bad, but I can’t lie and pretend like I don’t see the problems we have (read oppurtunity to improve) when the users and execs ask me what is going on…
Any of you grizzled old timers have some sage advice for me?
