I’ve just taken on a new role looking after a client facing web-based application together with a team of developers. The team has been so involved with doing day-to-day support work and constantly putting user change requests (enhancements) in place, that we seem to have stopped looking at what’s happening around us in the industry. We belong to an IT department of an Insurance/Investment business. So apart from IT knowledge, we also have to be aware of tools applicable to businesses in the Financial sector.
My challenge is – how to keep the team up-to-speed with technical advancements (while keeping it all relevant to our environment), and how to ensure our web-based application stays relevant to our clients. How do we know we are on the right track with our implementations?
I check out competitor sites and forums that our clients tend to visit, just to get some ideas of what’s out there; and what clients expect. TechRepublic is a valuable resource of information for me as well.
I’m interested to hear how everyone does it. How do you do it? How do you keep up?
