How do you list server names ?

By nick.riley ·
Does anyone know how to list the names of NT servers which are members of a domain, without listing the workstations also. I know this is possible through Server Manager but I need to be able to do the same task via the command line.

Any ideas welcome.

There is a resource kit utility named "nltest.exe" that will tell you the domain controllers for a domain. After you have installed the resource kit, go out to a command line to the "NTRESKIT" directory, or whatever directory you installed the resource kit to, and type:

nltest /dclist:domainname

This will list all the domain controllers for the domain you specify. Unfortunately, it won't list any member servers.

I hope this helps.

Would nbtstat -n help. Search / Filter of your wins database?
or the knowledge the servers register a type <1D> service with Wins or NTBTSTAT.

In NT Resource Kit, there is one utility named NETDOM.EXE

In command prompt, type NETDOM /? to list the available option.
