How does a CD burner actually work? I have found tons of info regarding the media, but not actually on the laser and lens apparatus of the burner itself. Can someone help me out?

This is actually a great FAQ – all you ever wanted to know about media but not the actual physical process of burning discs. Thanks for your response though! 🙂

Hi I dont know how deep you want to go but very basically the only difference is that in the burn process the laser runs at a higher ouput power otherwise its virtually identical to a reader.

The problem is – I needed to know how the data is input via the software to tell the laser HOW to burn the pits into the media, via the lens system. I found an explanation on the US patent site, complete with diagrams. Not easy stuff to track down! Thanks for your time in answering me, however.
