How fast is fast for your Web Server?

We have an opportunity here to get a link that gets about 1.0 mbps, not a T-1 speed, but still what I would consider relatively quick to share with a small office.
We would like to recoop the costs of having webhosting.com host 2 sites for us,(good web servers, lousy mail servers) and host our own servers here.
I’d like to know what everyone else considers fast enough to host their webservers and mail servers, and if anyone else has seen problems from having a web server on anything under aT-1. (we’re not using a lot of Multimedia, just your basic web site, and secured client area).
Has anyone else had any problems hosting a mail server on the same machine as thier webserver to preserve the same IP? any suggestions for doing this? (besides don’t use a 486DX2)
