How long to wait

By sikki ·
I applied for a position 2 weeks ago. they have not contacted me yet. I was wondering how long I should wait; or should I contact them this week. Basically it was a deal where you send your resume/app to the hiring person. I sent a resume and cover letter, also someone inside dropped off a copy of my resume.

Contact them

by road-dog In reply to How long to wait

Call the HR department of the prospective company. Approach the delay from the perspective of "was there a problem with my resume?". Ask for a status on the job req that you're going after.

Hiring can be a seige. I've interviewed for a position with an Aerospace contractor so that I can become a "cubicle-dog" and stop living out of a suitcase for awhile. The interview was on 14 December and today its March 5th. (you do the math)

Suffice it to say, the larger the corporation, the more HR hurdles there are to clear.

Find a contact in HR, become friendly, and check in weekly. Ask to be notified if you do NOT get the position, so that you can get constructive criticism of your performance in the interview.

good luck!

I called, got voice mail and left a message telling them to call if they need any more info or if there's anything else i need to do. I guess I'll have to wait a little longer now.

Dig, Man!

Find the potential employer's web page, look for locations / phone numbers. Get a human being on the phone who has some control ofer the selection / hiring process. Introduce yourself and get a friendly voice associated with your resume....
