How many CAL's?

By mr.macadam ·
Windows Server 2003 Single Proc w. SQL Standard 2005 OLP.

7 people have a GUI to access the accounting db. 16 people access the web front end.

Do I need 23 CAL's? Or 2; One for the accounting app and one for the www?

Probably need 8

You'd probably need 8 (but they only come in packs of 5). You'll need one for each of the people on the local network. If the people running the web app are using terminal services, you'll need one for each of them as well. So - the answer could be 23. Depends on how everyone is accessing the server.

23

Microsoft do not take into account that your front end is web-based. 23 people accessing the database=23 CALs.

Thanks

I'm seeing this. Since there's a possibility of extranet as well; looks like a processor license will cover this.

Thanks for all the replies.
