How many people install linux once a month?

By nickt ·
I do for one. I find my self rebooting my laptop popping in Ubuntu Gutsy and installing it. I then proceed to install Compiz and Emerald managers, then some icons and gtk theme... Then after the important stuff I'll copy my documents, Brasero, and some other stuff.
Then after about 2 weeks of using only Ubuntu on my laptop and only XP on my DAW in my studio I think "man it sure is nice to record in my living room." So I'll reinstall Windows and the cycle continues.......... Please tell me I'm not the only Linux OCD freak Linux OCD freak Linux OCD freak out there. Sorry bout that..............

You aren't alone...

I have lost count as to how many times I've installed countless distro's of Linux. I'm currently trying out Ubuntu 7.10, and I absolutely love it. The simplicity and stability absolutely spank Windoze. I'm still dual booting Ubuntu w/ XP since my skills aren't solid enough to run 100% Linux...but I'm getting there.

I gotta ask.

Do you have anything installed long enough to actually use your computer to do anything?

It seems to me that by the time you finish tweaking settings, tool bars, configurations, etc. to get things set the way you like, you wipe it all and start over again. Is there a Linux equivalent to the "MS Document and Settings Wizard" to copy all your setting over from one install to the next?

yea i keep

a backup of my home folder of ubuntu and a backup of my documents but i understand what your saying...... the only reason i dont stay on ubuntu ( cause i absolutley love it ) is because of the recording software.

but my laptop is just mainly my toy anyway, besides documents for work but i can do that on MS or linux.......... That maybe the problem for people like me and joe, we can use either one so we cant choose?

and i used to dual boot with xp and fedora core but it just bugs the **** out of me to see grub i don't know why but it does.

Not Linux, but Windows

by RknRlKid In reply to How many people install l ...

My Linux machine (Ubuntu) has been stable and untouched for at least a year now. Its Windows I keep finding myself having to reinstall every few months (with 95 & 98, it was every few weeks!).

Like many though, I do have a "practice" machine that I experiement with different distros on. So far I have had two different Ubuntu's, Kubuntu and Mandriva 2008 installed on it. This isn't counting live CD's I've practiced with!

if I had nothing better to do than swap out my OSes once a month I'd hope someone would find me a rubber room.

OH is building one in the basement. He won't let me in a certain room down there. It connects to the bathroom.
