How May I Slow Down DVD Drive Speed?

By ceruleanmist ·
Hi all,

My PC has an Optiarc AD-7173A DVD RW drive. It makes a really loud noise when I play DVDs with it. I want to slow down the drive speed to lessen the noise. The only way I have found is to use AnyDVD... unfortunately I cannot afford the subscription fee. Nero Drivespeed doesn't work on my PC (Vista OS).

Does anyone know of a way to slow down my drive other than the above described methods?

Thank you for your attention!

Unfortunately when playing a Disc as apposed to Burning

There is no way to slow it down as it runs at the speed that the Computer can take and manage the Data for the proper playback.

If it is noisy it is because the Disc is out of Balance and this will eventually destroy the Drive reading it or the Disc is not properly inserted in the drive or the Bearings on the Motor that spins the drive has failed and is no longer stopping the Disc from slopping about as it is driven. The only real fix is to use decent Blanks that are balanced and rated to 20X for DVD and 50X for CD's or replace the damaged drive.

You can however slow the Burning Speed of any Blank Disc as you record it under the Recording Software.

XP though, not sure, definitely don't know about Vista. An important note though, when your playing a DVD Movie, it plays at the exact speed of a DVD player, 1x, so if its loud at that speed, your SOL.
.....
Edit

Ok checked, the option doesn't seem to be there... Sorry, I got no other ideas
