Not possible

by Mehul Bhai In reply to How set 2 default printer

AFAIK only one item of any type can be set to default. If 2 can be set then they are not default by meaning. Also document printing on 2 printers at the same time is not possible.

Are you sure, as far as you know?

by santeewelding In reply to Not possible

It's not that I have a need for such a setup. Or, that I doubt you. The question is simply interesting to me.

There can be no serial or parallel way of doing it?

If not, I have learned something today.

In the "traditional" meaning of "default setting"

by seanferd In reply to Are you sure, as far as y ...

only one printer can be default.

The first way I know to print to multiple machines is the archaic way: Parallel port cables and switching boxes. (And if you know anyone running a printer museum, have them call me.)

The first option I can think of now would be a print server. Is there an ersatz way to do that with an app?

Refer to and refine search as needed.

Is that straight up?

by seanferd In reply to Next question

Is God?

Or am I to take that in the preceding context? Can I set two Gods as default? Or, again, adjusted for intent; "Can I pray to two Gods at the same time?"

You can take my answer to all of the above as deeply sincere, or as a cop-out, or whatever, but it is the same as the correct answer to some koans: <i>Mu</i>.

Default intransitive.

And, no, I do not doubt your sincerity.

I sort of have a "museum",

my primary printer at work is an old Okidata Microline 321, and I
also have one of those switch boxes that you can hook into the
parallel port, not in operation at the moment, but was used in
the past! I've got a couple of IBM ProPrinter IIs also...had a
notion to use my switch here at work, use one with labels the
other for reports, but haven't gotten "a round tuit" yet, hehe!

Still using the "Centronics" cables? Bless them.

I inherited a case if switches and cables along with a couple of things I actually wanted. I'd like to play around with them just for kicks, but I don't think that will happen anytime soon.

used to print to multiple printers under DOS / Win3.x . . .

by Who Am I Really In reply to Are you sure, as far as y ...

but it wasn't with different printer types or brands
(all had to be the same printer)

and it still wasn't more than one default printer

we would set up several of the same printer brand and model
and use a "printer hub" though it wasn't called that
they called it a switch but it was really a hub
and they worked in 2 modes
multiple PC's to one printer
or flip the cables and box and it became
1 PC to multiple printers
and it would print to as many as were powered on and connected to the "hub"

.
