How to add a program to registry?

By wompai ·
Hey,

I've got a program and all of its files on my pc, fully functional, but to other programs its as if the program does not exist. Thats because it never had a proper installation. And since I don't have the installer anymore and can't find it on the net, can somebody help me add the program to my installed programs list so that add-ons will install without a problem? These add-ons will search my pc for the program but they 'can't find' it, because the program hasn't been properly installed.
Can anyone help me?

Thanks in advance.

Good luck with that

The short answer is 'you can't get there from here'

The long answer is:
In order to create the registry entries, you need to have a deep understanding of the dozens of individual files that the application uses, as well as precisely what dependencies it has...everything from C libraries, to .Net libraries, etc. If, you can figure all that out, then you need to make something like fifty individual registry edits, which, by the way, will be different in every system depending on what version of Windows, .net, and other applications that are installed.

On top of all that, if you do not have the installer anymore, it raises the question as to whether you actually own the application or not. If you are a legit owner of the app, then you can most certainly go to the web site of the publisher and download or request a replacement program, which can then be reinstalled properly.

If you're looking for specific advice on a specific program, it would be useful to mention what program you are discussing as well as what OS you are using.

Hey,

First off, thanks for the respons.

I'm discussing a game called Spore. I've got the program from a friend who bought it. I just copied the files to my pc. He had an account to that game, but the game can be played without an account. The only difference is that you cannot connect to the internet with it and can't play online with friends. Now I wanted to instal the expansion "creepy and cute". But the program wasn't found on my pc by the installer of the expansion. The program is simply placed in the map program files in the map 'spore'.

I run WinXP PRO SP3.
