How to automatically pull data from Excel into Powerpoint charts?

By ruthwongsy ·
Hi, im an intern at a media company. I'm asked to automate the pulling of data from Excel into Powerpoint charts.

Instead of using macros, are there any other ways to automate things? Furthermore, if there is an update in data (in Excel), how can I get it to show in the charts (in ppt) as well?

The data in Excel are actually raw data obtained from some software which runs the data from a database. It may not be cleaned yet. Is there any way to get all the details we want from the excel to be displayed in charts(pie, bar, line)in Powerpoint itself??

Can charts be automatically done up in Excel then?

Thanks for replying, laxer26.

My next concern is whether charts can be automatically generated in Excel or not. For example, we have tables of data for the charts already & we could just generate charts by a click of a button "Generate Chart"- presto! Charts are done...& could be linked to Powerpoint after that.

Then there will not be a need to insert charts & click several times to build up the chart that we want. Is there any way to make that happen?

Charting is easier in Excel. Check out www.xpport.com for a simple approach to move data/charts from Excel to PowerPoint.

This works and doesn't require pasting everytime!

You only have to past your chart the first time. 1.Copy your chart 2.Paste special 3.Click on radio button "Paste Link" 4.Click okay. Now everytime you update your chart in Excel it will update in PPT. If the PPT file is open when you make your excel changes, the PPT changes are automatic. If you open the PPT file after you make your excel changes, click "Update Links" when you open the PPT file and the chart updates. The website below has a great description too.
