How to boot XP from win98?

By shameer1512 ·
Hi there,

I had 2 os on my pc with 3 partition. I had win98 in my first patition. Win xp on the second, which is NTFS. and the third is only for backup. My problem is that i had some troubles with win 98 and had to format and reinstal it. Now i cant boot my Win Xp. I dont get the option to chose to chose which OS i want to use. since xp is on NTFS i cant even access my files on the second partition.
Can someone advise?

download a bootloader that can switch the active partition. Partition magic has a good one.

Apart from suggestion 1 you should be able to restore your dual boot system by starting with your Windows XP CD and using the System Repair option.

Hi Sham
In this case, Win98 cannot remember WinXP because WinXP is ready. Win98 will recongnize WinXP if you installed WinXP again. The rules in dual-boot are that the first OS must be the older than the next ones which must be installed after the first one in another partitions.

Hi ,if you have the admin password for win xp, then boot from the cd log in as admin and use the "fixboot"command. voila the bootloader will show up again at the next boot
