How to choose entry level Linux server?

By rmg ·
I want to setup an entry level web server in my home to serve my own websites. I want to use Apache Tomcat on Linux for my Web/Application Server and MySQL or PostgreSQL for my DB server. I have a budget of around $3000. Could anybody suggest what a good start would be? So far, I've looked at Dell and IBM. Thanks!

Get yourself a crappy 486 or low end pentium and at least RedHat 6.2. Web servers do not require a lot of resources. Wait a minute! You want to service a MySQL or PostgeSQL db server over a WAN for under $3000? And you've turned down IBM! IBM hasa very nice implmentation of Linux that supports SQL nicely! I've seen it in action and it is sweeeet!
