How To Close An Open Relay

By artcabot ·
Our Exchange 2000 server has made it into the ORDB Open Relay database and some e-mails are bouncing. How do I close this "hole"? I can't find anything in the Microsoft Knowledge Base or my Exchange 2000 documentation.

How To Close An Open Relay

Exchange has to be set to only accept mails sent to people in the address book. In exchange 5.5 you tell it to reroute incoming mail and specify the domain that mail is being sent to (mydomain.com).

This will force the Exchange server to check incoming mail against the address book and close the relay.

I'm afriad my Exchange 2000 is a little flakey, but I'm sure someone else must know exactly how / where to set this up.

Try this link:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2fsearch%2fviewDoc.aspx%3fdocID%3dKC.Q265293%26dialogID%3d9077174%26iterationID%3d1%26sessionID%3danonymous%7c6773744

It addresses reconfiguring the SMTP connector.
