    How to communicate two exchange 2000 servers

    I have two domains which are not at the same Active Directory Forest. Each one has his own Exchange Server and due to server obsolescense and because we are putting in production a new domain we need to take out of production one of these ExServer, but while this momment occurs, we need to redirect the messages from the old ExServer to the new own.

    Which are the basic steps to take into account to get this?. Is there any Receipt?

    Thanks a lot in advance,

    Dewey

      You can do this a couple of different ways.
      1) Ensure the users in each ad forest have the same SMTP user accounts(or old users from 1 server have their same addresses on the new server) You can add the old smtp addresses to the new server because the AD forests are not conected.
      2) Redirect the MX Record to the new server from the old server, or port redirect your firewall to your new server. This will allow your new server to instantly get email.
      3) If you allow Receipts, then users should get them.

      Mr Wall;
      Thanks for your quick answer.

      One question more. If we want to change the old user smtp addresses for new ones in the new ExServer, what additional steps must we consider?

      Again, thanks a lot.
