What type of face plate do you have? Does it have screws or terminals that have to have the Cat5 "punched" onto it? Are the posts color coded for you, or is this what you are needing?

For the color code: terminal 1-White/Orange " 2-Orange
" 3-White/Green
" 4-Blue
" 5-White/Blue
" 6-Green
" 7-White/Brown " 8-Brown

As for a color diagram, I have good one and if I can find the URL, I'll post it as a comment. Hope this will get you started. Email me if you need further info. Roger

For about $5 apiece, you can buy new Network face plates, then you know what you have. You should be able to get them at most home improvement warehouses, electrical centers, or Radio Shacks. Depending on what is near you, just pick the best device for the money.

http://www.stg.brown.edu/~sjd/wiring/CAT5-wiring.html#pinouts

If this LAN is two PCs "back to back", then you need the "crossover" pinout with pins 1-2 crossed over to 3-6. Do you have a cable / DSL modem in the mix? if so pin out straight through, terminate to a point near the cable modem and drop in a $49.95 hub. Connect the modem to the uplink port on the hub and the two PCs to the other ports.

Voila`, instant LAN - you're halfway to your CCIE!
(just kidding)
