Wireless is not fast enough for multi-player games ...

by OldER Mycroft In reply to how to Connect two laptop ...

If you are going to run a multi-player game between two laptops you are far better running a null modem cable between the two computers. That way the throughput of data will enable each machine's program to keep up with the other.

Running a multi-player game with a wireless connection CAN be done, but due to error-trapping, there is a lot more re-sending and re-receiving of data packets. Also - wireless will only run at about one-quarter of the speed of a cable (which will then be divided by 2 players).

Should you opt to play a multi-player game using the wireless system, you will get better results if you DO NOT USE the Router AT ALL. Instead set up the 2 laptops to share an AD-HOC connection wirelessly. That is then a direct connection from laptop to laptop.

Edit for typo.

File transfers will be slower than over a wired LAN, but it shoulnt be that bad... you will probably get 4 MB a sec...

Gaming over a wireless LAN, should be OK, you might experience a little lag, but I wouldnt think it would be that bad. I wouldnt recommend any more than two wireless PC's on the WIFI while you are gaming then you will get a decent amount of lag.
