How to connect two NT server 4 through 9

by calves In reply to How to connect two NT ser ...

I have one question: Are both offices in the same domain?
Well, I used to build a setup like that 3 times a year (conventions and such), where I would connect domain controllers accross a 2 modems connections. At the end, what I found to work bestwas, RRAS as you've mentioned, and VPN, for it allowed for a greater bandwith when connected. You see, if you dial from one analog modem to another, the average speed connection is 26.7k and max is 33.6k per modem. However, if you connect to an ISPwith digital modem, your bandwith could encrease to 52k per modem. 2 modems will give you roughly 100k connection.
If you know how to use RRAS, and both offices belongs to the same domain, you already have everything you need.
I keep a web site that has a lot info and links about RRAS and VPN and combination.

Try to install DSL line in both office is the best that you can do, it's not expensive and better and you are on line all the time you will share internet and all the resources across the lan, be aware, try to put a firewall. more information.

I think what you mean is a Leased Line (analog). It's always on, not a dial-up. I used to do that with SCO, but never with NT. But here goes anyway, I had lease line modems on both ends (I think they were Multi brand) and each one could either hold it's own IP address, so I would route over the modems, or else each one was connected directly to the server where I setup a null modem. I guess the NT version of that would be to make a dial-up adapter and give it a static IP and then route overthat. I'm pretty sure the only way is to get the correct modem that supports leased lines though.

Use DOD (Dial-on-Demand) that comes with RRAS. Any resource remote(LAN wise)to a computer will flag RRAS to dial the other RRAS and make a connection. I've used this extensively in the past and it works great!!! There is a traditional Microsoft Wizard that helps you assemble the connection. Enjoy!!!
