How to determine UID logged in @IP_addr

By wil ·
There must be a combination or NBTSTAT, ARP and/or PING commands that will tell me who (UID) is logged in at x.x.x.x IP address.
The closest I can get is:
nbtstat -A <dest_ip_addr> -n
but that only gives me [00] [03] and [20] results on the NetBIOS machine name. What about some [00] and [03] results on UID?
Alternatively, do you know of any tools to accomplish such?

How to determine UID logged in @IP_addr

The "nbtstat -A <ip_addr>" command gives me this info for Windows machines our network, ie it shows 03 records for UID.

Perhaps you do not have the necessary permissions, or the machine you are looking at has no current login?

I have done what you mentioned, but it does not consistently tell me the UID. Maybe there's a timing issue as most of my clients leave their machines on all the time. My problem seems to lie in Win9x boxes as I am successful with Win2K and WinNT boxes.

Hi,

i mean their is no such tool. Why ?
Think of the 7 Layer OSI-Modell (Project 802 from IEEE), their you will see that a session is established in Layer 5 (SessionLayer) and Layer 4 (TransportLayer) does the Transmission, but the nameres isdone at Layer 3 so their you have the netbios names cache where tools like nbtstatt reads from.

What you need is a Tool for yout NOS or a sniffer who does an automatic paketanalyzing.

A good Tool to see who is in my net is the Languard Network Scanner(FREEWARE). Download it from www.bhs.com or www.languard.com.
A good Tool for managing NT NOS is hyena from www.adkins-resource.com.

Frobo

Very unreliable and doesn't always give up to the minute accurate answers. That's the thing I was originally trying to resolve.
