How to Disable An LCD Projector Display

By JNolan3 ·
We are using an LCD projector in a computer classroom where students have their own workstations. The instruction philosphy is hands-on by the students with minimal instructor intervention. The idea in using the projector is to display an occasionalquick demonstration and then have the students repeat the exercise on their own classroom PC's.
Question: Is there a way in Windows ME, 98SE and XP for the instructor to easily toggle the LCD projector image on and off (or to a blue or blank DOS screen) from her workstation so that the projector display does not continue to distract students who should be paying attention to their own monitors?
Thanks for your help.

If she's using a portable computer, there's always a keuboard shortcut to toggle between screen/Barco. Usually FN+Screen.

On a standard computer, insert a manual screen switch to toogle.

Thanks for the information about a laptop solution. Our instructor is using a single desktop workstation to drive the projector. I am uncertain what a "manual screen swtich" is. Is it a switch that is in series with the VGA cable to the projector?
Meanwhile, to--simulate a keyboard solution--we created a Powerpoint slide that is entirely blue and then minimized it to the Task Bar. When the instructor wants to disable the LCD display, she Restores the Powerpoint task and keys F5 to display a full bluescreen in slideshow mode. (Makes the IT observers in the classroom flinch). Left click the mouse and it reverts to a DOS black screen; another click and it is back to the instructor's working screen. Thanks again for the suggestion.

If the computer is connected to one monitor, then it will only see what's on that computer, if monitor is connected to two computers, they can toggle from one to the other. If they are connected to a network then the instructor can send the exercises to every computer, or they can open the exercises from the network folder.
