how to disable/hack IE7 and IE8 Runonce feature

By Snuffy09 ·
This feature is very annoying when a computer one our LAN pulls an update (IE8 or IE7) from WSUS that does not have internet access.

Users cannot get to local intranet sites until IE launches its stupid runonce walk-through which needs internet access.

is there a registry hack that will disable the runonce? or make it think it already ran? (a default value?)

Hi Snuffy09,

I understand you want to disable the Runonce feature of IE7 and IE8. Below steps should work for you

1.Open IE7 in No Add-on Mode.

2.Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer

3.Now open the Runonce webpage [] and follow steps customizing your preferences.

4.After you click finish button, restart your IE7.

It should be fixed now. If it works for IE7, replicate the above steps for IE 8 too.

Do post the results (if working or not)

Initially follow these directions on the admin profile. Then use the admin profile as the default profile.
Hint before coping the admin profile to the default profile - search for hidden desktop.ini files in the admin profile. This allows the next user to have their My Doc folders ect with their name and not Admins documents.

Here are the steps;

For updates you would need to push a logon script to write to the reg keys from the above article.
