how to disable onboard graphics

by elementofthepyro . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

Alright, so I just got a new video card (well old, outdated i’d say, but not the point) i decided to install it into my old computer; only problem is I have to disable it through BIOS supposedly which can’t be done, i know that. i can allocate video memory, and the options on the right tell me i can allocate 512k to 1MB of video memory and it also says to select “disable onboard graphics” to disable it, which isn’t an option. I’ve tried many things such as disabling my onboard graphics through the device manager, or even uninstalling it. I want to clarify that i can set my card type through BIOS to AGP or PCI, i know that my card is a PCI card, but if i disable or uninstall the onboard graphics in the device manager, i get the 1 beep and 2 short beeps which i know indicate i have video problems. now, i know my card works because rather than setting my bios to PCI, i set it to AGP, which worked for loading up Windows. Windows recognises my card and I can switch display adapters to the one on my video card, and it works. I can set it as my default monitor adapter, but even loading it up on the AGP setting, it’ll load up the onboard drivers regardless and then freeze before windows starts. I’m starting to wonder if i should update my BIOS or whatnot, maybe then it’ll work, maybe not. My computer is an HP Pavilion 511n, and it has an Intel Graphics Controller hub. Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated.
