So my company recently has had a few data corruption inssues with our exchange database. we had to use an older full backup to restore the database but found that some of the logs were either missing or corrupt. Im trying to find out if there is a way to do a full backup without removing all of the exchange logs. currently we are doing copy backups of the exchange.

the transaction log will continue to grow in size until you backup Exchange. I would think that backing up Exchange is a good thing. If you run out of disc space, the information store will unmount and volia! no functioning email server.

The only way to get it working is to backup Exchange, which can take a while, to play the transaction logs or and this doesn’t work if the store unmounts, turn on circular logging. If you do that, you’ve lost the ability to restore Exchange from a backup at the time the Exchange server takes a header into the abyss.

Don’t you make full system backup or you just “backup” the Exchange Server?
If you do both you will have to backup copies of the exchange. Anyway i wonder why you need the whole logs? I think those issues are due to lack of Exchange meintenance – http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-1035-0.html?forumID=101&threadID=327122&messageID=3257305

If you keep your Exch. store optimized and running smoothly you shouldn’t have such problems.
